Your Light is Bright, Don’t Hide It!

Scripture: Matthew 5:15 — “Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.” (Read Matthew 5:14–16.)

Think about it — the whole purpose of a light is to give off light. Nobody flips on a lamp and then drops a bucket over it. That would be pointless. A light is made to be seen.

So here’s something wild. In Matthew 5, Jesus looks at ordinary people like you and me and says, “You are the light of the world.” Stop and let that land. “The light of the world” is a title that belongs to Jesus himself — but He hands it to us. He invites us to join Him and carry His light into every place we go.

With His light living inside you, you can shine bright in a dark world. And let’s be honest — this world is dark. Depression, sin, temptation, spiritual wickedness, hopelessness — it’s everywhere, maybe even in the hallways you walk every single day. But your life — your actual, everyday life — can light that darkness up.

That’s exactly why you can’t afford to hide it.

• Don’t hide your light behind a fake persona, pretending to be someone you’re not.
• Don’t hide it by acting like you don’t care.
• Don’t hide it under a life of sin, setting a bad example.
• Don’t hide it by tying yourself to the wrong crowd.

Every time you cover your light, the room stays dark — and the people around you who needed to see it never do.

Here’s the truth: your light is bright enough to make a difference. Bright enough to change a friend’s whole day. Bright enough to point someone straight to Jesus. So put it up on the stand where it belongs.

Your light is bright enough to make a difference — so don’t hide it.

This week: Pick one place you’ve been hiding your light — one friendship, one habit, one room you walk into — and choose to shine instead. Let people see Jesus in you.

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for calling me the light of the world. Fill me with Your light and give me the courage to shine, even when it’s hard. Let someone see You in me this week. Amen.
