I Love Going to Church

Scripture: Psalm 27:4 — “One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.” (Read Psalm 27:4–8.)

In Psalm 27, David pours out just how much he loved worshiping God in His house. He wasn’t dragged there — he longed for it. And in just a few verses, he gives us three reasons the house of God meant everything to him.

The Seclusion of It. Notice how David starts: “One thing have I desired…” One thing. Out of everything the king of Israel could have asked for — money, power, victory, comfort — he narrowed it all down to one. What do you want, David? “I just want to get where God is.” When was the last time your heart wanted just one thing — and that one thing was God?

The Security of It. David says he wants to dwell in the house of the Lord. Dwell doesn’t mean drop in — it means stay, and stay a while. He wasn’t looking for the exits. He wasn’t counting down the minutes until it was over. He came to linger, to settle in, to be at home in God’s presence. Church wasn’t a chore to survive; it was a place to belong.

The Sight of It. Why did he want to stay? “To behold the beauty of the LORD.” David saw something there. When he came to worship, he wasn’t just going through the motions — he caught a glimpse of God Himself, and it was beautiful. That’s what happens when you actually show up with your heart open: you see the Lord.

Here’s the truth, straight up: I love going to church. And I hope you realize how much you need it. Your faith was never meant to run on empty and all by yourself — it grows when you’re planted in the house of God, worshiping alongside His people. So don’t just attend. Anchor yourself there.

This week: Don’t just show up to church — show up early, sit up front, and come with the one desire David had: to get where God is. Then stay, linger, and look for the beauty of the Lord.

Prayer: Lord, give me a heart like David’s — one that desires You above everything else. Help me love Your house, dwell in Your presence, and behold Your beauty. Anchor me in Your church. Amen.
