What I Learned from the Frost

“By the breath of God frost is given.”

— Job 37:10

It’s cold today here in North Carolina—bitter cold. The kind of cold you don’t have to check a thermometer to feel. The ground is covered in frost, and it’s impossible to miss.

And there’s a statement in the book of Job that comes to mind:
“By the breath of God frost is given.”

You know who did that? God did.

God Did That

We look out and see the frost on the ground, and it’s easy to move past it without a second thought. But pause for just a moment. That frost didn’t happen by accident. It wasn’t random. God did that.

And if God did that—then everything else throughout your day is under His control as well.

The rain that falls.
The sun that rises.
The warmth.
The cold.

God sends it all.

So much of what God does in our lives is quietly taken for granted. Food on the table. Shelter over our heads. Strength to get through the day. And above all, God sent Jesus to die for our sin.

God created everything that is. God sustains everything that exists.

A Sovereign, All-Powerful God

If God can send frost by the breath of His mouth, then surely He can be trusted with every need we face. The same God who spoke creation into existence is directing your path today.

God is sovereign.
God is in control.
God’s hand is on the wheel.

What seems impossible to man is never impossible to God. If He can do all this with His breath, then there is nothing beyond His ability.

A Simple Encouragement for Today

If it’s cold where you are today, step outside for a moment. Look at the frost. Let it remind you:

God did that.

And just as surely, God is at work in your life—even in ways you cannot see. You can rest in this truth: God is directing your steps, meeting your needs, and remains firmly in control.
