When God is Too Late

When You Think He's Too Late

You've been there — maybe not at a literal graveside, but somewhere that felt just as final. A door closed. A relationship ended. A dream buried. And somewhere in the back of your mind, a thought crept in: It's too late now. Even if God shows up, it won't matter.

Martha was there. Her brother Lazarus was dead — not just sick, not just fading, but four days gone. Decaying. Sealed behind a stone. She ran out to meet Jesus when she heard He was coming, and her first words to Him were honest and raw:

"Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died."

Translation: You were late. I needed you and you didn't come. And now it's over.

Maybe you've said something like that to God. In the quiet. In the dark. Where were you when I needed you most?

What Jesus Said Back

"I am the resurrection, and the life."
— John 11:25

Not "I will arrange a resurrection." Not "someday things will improve." Pastor Cooper said it this way Sunday:

"What you're waiting for is who you're looking at."

The answer to her grief was standing right in front of her. And the answer to yours is the same Person.

Jesus walked to the tomb. They warned Him about the smell — four days of death and decay. And He said: "Take away the stone." Then He called out with a loud voice: Lazarus, come forth. And the man who was dead came walking out.

For Today

Whatever you've written off as too far gone — bring it back to Jesus. Not to a feeling. Not to a prayer formula. To the Person who declared Himself to be the resurrection. Stop managing your grief alone and bring it to the one who has authority over the grave.

He's not late. He's the resurrection. And He knows your name.

🙏 Prayer

Lord, I confess I've sometimes thought You arrived too late. Forgive me. You are the resurrection and the life — and there is nothing in my story that is beyond Your power to redeem. I bring what I've buried back to You today. Call it forth. In Jesus' name, Amen.
