The Clock Nobody Watches

I have watched a man punch a time clock in the morning and punch it out at night, and do the exact same thing the next day, and the day after that. Nobody wrote an article about him. No one built him a statue. He carried food to tables, or turned a wrench until the grease sat under his fingernails, and then he went home tired and did it all again.
And if I am honest, I think that man sometimes wonders in the quiet whether his life adds up to anything at all.
Maybe that man is you today. And I want to say something to you, plainly, before you go one more hour believing the wrong thing about your life.
You and I were not made to drift. There is a hunger inside every one of us to be part of something that matters, something that leaves a mark long after we are gone. I have come to believe that the ache is not a weakness. It is a compass.

People can survive a shortage of talent. What they cannot survive is a life with no purpose. And here is the good news I could not wait to hand you: God has already given you a purpose bigger than any job on your resume.
There is a man in the first chapter of John I want you to meet. His name is Andrew. Read John 1 verse 41 slowly with me.
"He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias... And he brought him to Jesus."
— John 1:41–42
Andrew is never famous in the Bible. He is always introduced the same way — "Simon Peter's brother." He lived in a shadow. And yet the very first thing he did after meeting Jesus was find his brother and bring him. He had no training. He had never opened a Sunday school book. He simply knew what Jesus had done inside of him, and he could not keep it to himself.
Have you ever felt that? That quiet certainty that what God did for you, He could do for someone you love? That feeling is not too small to act on. It is the beginning of the greatest work God will ever let you do.
You do not need a title to change eternity. You need one name and one introduction.
So here is your Monday morning. Before you clock in tomorrow, write down one name — one person you see regularly who does not know Christ. A coworker. A neighbor. The person whose name tag you read at the store. Put that name where you will see it, and start praying for that one soul by name. That is how an Andrew begins.
Because I will tell you what I know for certain:
Nothing on earth is better than helping somebody get to Jesus.
