Just Keep Walking

Just Keep Walking

By Pastor Justin Cooper

When I was a kid, I took a pretty good spill off the back of a pickup truck. Skinned my elbow clean to the bone, knocked the wind out of me, and I sat there in the gravel wondering if I was going to die right there in the driveway.

My daddy walked over, looked me up and down, and said four words. "Get up. Walk it off."

I was looking for sympathy and I got a sentence.

But you know what? He was right. I dusted off, took about ten wobbly steps, and by the time I made it to the porch I was breathing again. By supper I'd nearly forgotten about it.

I'll tell you what, brother — walking it off is more than dad advice. It's a way of life with God.

"Walking, it might not get you someplace as fast as running. It might not be as exciting as watching somebody sprint, but it is constant progress."

And constant progress is the whole game.

Look at Genesis 5 verse 24 with me. The Bible says, "And Enoch walked with God." That's it. No marathons. No mountaintops listed by name. No highlight reel. Just a man, walking with his God.

Y'all ever wondered why God didn't write more about Enoch? I think it's because there wasn't anything flashy to write. He just walked. Day after day. Year after year. He got up and walked with God again.

You and I want fireworks. God wants footsteps.

Not every day is exciting. Not every day is up. Not every day is worth the applause of the crowd. Listen — that's not a problem. That's the path.

So what does this look like on a Monday morning when the alarm goes off, you're tired, the bills are due, and last week didn't go like you hoped? It looks like this — get up, put your shoes on, get your Bible out and read it, pour your coffee, pray, go to church, just do right, and just keep walking forward with God.

That's the whole thing. There isn't a deeper secret.

Get up. Get going. Keep walking.

Some seasons of your life you're not going to be running. You won't even be jogging. By the grace of God, you'll be walking. And brother, that is enough.

Just walk it off. Just walk on.

Enoch did. So can you.

A prayer for today:

Father, I'm not always strong. Some days the burden feels heavier than my feet feel willing. But by Your grace, I'll get up. I'll lace my shoes. I'll open my Bible. I'll take one more step with You today — and tomorrow, by Your grace, another one. In Jesus' name, amen.

Reflection:

What is one small, ordinary, unimpressive step you can take with God today — even if nobody sees it?
