Look What He Did

There is a moment I watch for whenever someone tells the story of how they came to Christ. It is the moment the sentence turns. Some people cannot help but center themselves — how they cleaned up, how they figured it out, how they finally got their act together. But every now and then someone tells it a different way, and the whole story points somewhere else entirely.
That difference is not a matter of personality. It is the difference grace makes in a heart, and it comes out in the very words a person chooses.
"Grace is too powerful to just save you and not also sanctify you."
The grace that rescued you is still working — making you and me a little more like Jesus and a little less like our old selves. And when it does its work, it changes the story we tell:
"The legalist says, 'Look what I just did.' The debtor to grace says, 'Look what Jesus did.'"

When people watched Paul travel from city to city — the man who used to hunt believers now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy — they did not walk away impressed with Paul. They walked away amazed at God. Scripture puts it beautifully:
"And they glorified God in me."
— Galatians 1:24
They did not glorify Paul. They looked at a life that no earthly explanation could account for, and they gave the credit to the only One who deserved it. That is the point of your salvation and mine — not to make much of us, but to make much of Him.
So here is your next step, and it moves outward. This week, tell one person plainly what God did for you — and tell it the second way. Not "look how I changed," but "look what Jesus did." Let the sentence turn. Someone in your life needs to hear a story that ends with God getting the glory, and yours may be the one they cannot argue with.
